Hypermaremma 2023: Works, Events, Installations

Terre di Sacra, Capalbio Ecotourism in Tuscany, Excursions in Maremma

Hypermaremma is a non-profit cultural association dedicated to the production and promotion of artistic events in Maremma, Italy, through the involvement of contemporary artists invited to interact with the territory and its history.

Il Fontanile di Giuseppe Ducrot – 1 July 2023

For over 5 years, thanks to Hypermaremma’s initiatives, Maremma has been enriched with both permanent and temporary works of art on its territory, in line with the mission of “pursuing beauty in dialogue with the territory“.

This year, Hypermaremma’s initiatives are particularly focused on the theme of social impact. The key points on which the initiatives, works, installations, and performances are based are collaborations of a cultural, creative, technological, and logistical nature, united by an innovative idea of contemporary patronage.

Terre di Sacra will host a new work of art promoted by Hypermaremma on its territory. In 2021, we hosted and made permanent on our territory the work “Spazio Amato”. We have now launched the second work in Terre di Sacra in collaboration with Hypermaremma. The subject of the work is a previously abandoned fountain now renovated and redesigned by Giuseppe Ducrot, covered in baroque-style ceramics.

The fountain is a grandiose work. It will rise 15 meters long and 4.5 meters high on the basis of a watering hole from the 1940s for Maremma bulls, located on the coastal road leading to the Circolo della Macchia.

The fountain will be inaugurated at the end of June 2023, and from July 1, 2023, the work will be freely accessible.

Hypermaremma’s Event Calendar

Many other events are planned for the spring and summer of 2023. Here is a calendar for the main events. Other events are still being defined and will be communicated on the Hypermaremma website.

Tulip (Virginia Overton) – from April 8th 2023

Hypermaremma 2023 opened on Saturday, April 8, when American artist Virginia Overton presented her installation “Tulip” in Orbetello, inspired by the fairy tale book “Il Latte dei Sogni” and created for the last Venice Biennale. This monumental tulip-shaped sculpture was created by reusing existing molds typically used for construction galleries. It consists of three segments of vertically interlocking cement that create an upright structure punctuated by circular holes of pink glass that form a triangular opening towards the sky. An undoubtedly fascinating and stimulating installation.

Charlemagne Palestine Concert – 15 July 2023

Thanks to a collaboration with Terraforma, Hypermaremma 2023 presented a unique and unrepeatable event: the exclusive performance of Charlemagne Palestine, an authoritative exponent of American minimalist and drone music. The performance, held in the magnificent setting of Ferriera di Pescia Fiorentina, was curated by Ruggero Pietromarchi and was intended for a small group of visitors and friends.

Ferriera di Pescia Fiorentina is a complex of industrial archaeology whose activity dates back to the 16th and 19th centuries. It is a valuable testimony to the history of technology and industrial archaeology. The building was renovated in the 1990s and is now adapted to host events and shows in a highly suggestive environment.

Felice Levini – 17 June – 30 October 2023

Hypermaremma 2023 presents Felice Levini, a contemporary artist based in Rome. Drawing inspiration from his work “Le Tre Grazie,” the artist will meet contemporary art enthusiasts, illustrating the work and his aesthetics, in the ancient Etruscan city of Cosa, in Ansedonia in June.

Carola Bonfili – “Second Order Reality” – September

Carola Bonfili, one of the winners of the latest edition of the Italian Council, will present her new video production titled “Second Order Reality” at Hypermaremma in September, intended for the MAXXI in Rome.

“RUNE” – Parasite 2.0 – June & July 2023

Parasite 2.0 is a recently formed collective of internationally renowned architects. The collective has already participated in numerous Architecture Biennials, workshops, and exhibitions at major Italian and foreign institutions such as the Moma Ps1 in New York, MAXXI, Macro, and Mambo in Bologna.

the RUNE project inhabits the beaches of Maremma with a series of installations in the landscape. Each season, the beaches will see the emergence of constructions made by residents and users to protect themselves from the sun. Each year a seasonal community leaves its mark on the landscape, transforming the territory. The project aims to construct a series of elements that integrate this way of temporal shaping of the habitat with new symbols and forms.

“Aquiloni” – Alice Ronchi

Alice Ronchi, an established sculptor and artist from Piacenza, has designed an exclusive performance called “Aquiloni,” during which some kites specially made by the last skilled kite artisans in the national territory will fly on the Maremma beach.

Art auction – September

Finally, Hypermaremma collaborates with Sotheby’s for an auction of limited-edition versions of the artworks created by the artists, taking place from September at the Circolo della Macchia a Terre di Sacra.
