Spazio Amato: Suspended Light in the Maremma

Terre di Sacra, Capalbio Excursions in Maremma, Family holiday in the country, Terre di Sacra Country Houses

Art and landscape meet at Terre di Sacra with Spazio Amato, the luminous work by Massimo Uberti in collaboration with Hypermaremma.

A Luminous Shadow in the Heart of Nature

In the tranquil embrace of Terre di Sacra, overlooking the WWF Oasis of Lake Burano (Capalbio), light takes shape in Spazio Amato, conceived by artist Massimo Uberti for Hypermaremma. This monumental neon installation is not only an aesthetic statement, but also a silent invitation to read the landscape, to recognize it, and to preserve it over time.

The Dialogue Between Art and Landscape

With Spazio Amato, Uberti succeeds in merging art and nature into a concept of light as “revealed space,” a semantic trace that redefines the context hosting it. The neon inscription stands out against the natural frame of the lake, transforming into a poetic caption that speaks directly to the visitor’s heart. His intervention, suspended between presence and memory, appears almost like a luminous evanescence emerging for a brief instant in the stillness of the Maremma.

A Site-Specific Imprint

The work first lit up in the summer of 2020, as part of the 2020 edition of Hypermaremma, a festival dedicated to contemporary art in dialogue with the Maremma landscape. Each summer, the installation extends its presence in harmony with the nature and rhythms of the oasis, aligning with the conservation values upheld by Terre di Sacra and the WWF. Every year, the work lights up at Terre di Sacra, strengthening its bond with the territory and reaffirming the intention to share art that is born from a sense of place.

Emotion and Reflection: Words, Light, Nature

Stepping into the installation’s permanent area means being enveloped by a suspended silence, broken only by the discreet glow of neon. In this perception, the inscription becomes a kind of “visual caption” that encourages contemplation, asking the visitor to confront the changing, precious beauty of the Maremma. Thus, light becomes word, reflection, and memory.

The Hypermaremma Festival: An Open-Air Museum

Since its inception in 2019, Hypermaremma has aimed to transform the lower Maremma into a widespread museum through site-specific works and installations by international contemporary artists. Spazio Amato fits perfectly into this vision: a work of art that does not invade but engages in dialogue, recovering the intimate value of the place and returning it amplified through the sensitivity of the work.

Art that Preserves: A Tribute to Continuity

Spazio Amato is more than an installation: it is a gesture of love towards nature, a testament to Terre di Sacra, founded in 1922, and its continued commitment to placing respect for the landscape at the heart of its choices. The installation thus becomes a symbol of a fragile beauty that calls for care and perseverance.

How to Visit Spazio Amato

The work is located in a strategic position, visible from the coastal provincial road of Capalbio, and lights up at sunset to illuminate nature until late evening from June to September, offering a captivating experience in the heart of the Maremma.

A Luminous Poem for the Visitor

For those staying at Terre di Sacra, Spazio Amato offers a unique experience: a light suspended between earth and sky, an invitation to slow down, to rediscover an authentic relationship with nature and with time. Each visit is an act of attention towards the environment, a moment to rediscover the ability to marvel.
